COMMERCIAL SALMON SEASON 2026
The Pacific Fishery Management Council has set the 2026 commercial salmon seasons. Below are links to the Council document and a summary map for planning.
We know this is not the season we had hoped for, but as the first season in California after three years of full closure, and after two tough Council meetings navigating a challenging management system, it is difficult not to be excited that our fleet can get back to work, at least in some capacity.
PCFFA has been closely engaged throughout this process, pushing back against layered precautions, crunching numbers within the models, and advocating for alternatives that would allow maximum fishing opportunity within harvest limits.
We have raised concerns with the way the current framework is constraining the fishery, but those issues were simply could not be resolved in the process of setting this season.
However, PCFFA is committed to addressing the underlying problems that are limiting opportunity and will be getting to work now to improve conditions for future seasons.
For 2026 though, there are 83,000 fish to catch between May and August, and we can’t wait to see vessels on the grounds and local King Salmon on California plates.
