Comments regarding 2026 Salmon fishing for the Pacific Fisheries Council-March 2026

PCFFA has submitted formal comments on Agenda Item C.3 regarding 2026 ocean salmon alternatives.

This is an important moment in the process. The alternatives adopted in March will shape not only this season, but the management structure going forward.

We believe fisheries management should focus on managing the resource, not unnecessarily regulating individual fishing businesses or limiting opportunity as a precautionary measure or to avoid litigation.

For 2026, we support a season that provides meaningful, economically viable fishing opportunities based on improved salmon abundance. We support managing total allowable catch through data-driven adjustments based on required landing data. We strongly oppose vessel quotas and trip limits as a default structure and any alternatives that presume them at the outset, and instead support a more balanced approach. Our full letter is available below.

You can count on PCFFA working hard at the meeting to ensure the best possible outcome for the commercial fishing fleet!
