PCFFA Submits Comments on 2026 Salmon Season

PCFFA has submitted formal comments to the Council on the proposed 2026 salmon season.

These comments reflect the fleet’s perspective on the proposed 2026 season and outline practical, achievable actions for the Council to take to improve outcomes for the fleet this season.

After three consecutive years of full closure, the current approach continues to limit fishing opportunity based on assumptions that do not reflect current conditions or what the fleet has already been through. This shows up in the structure of the proposed season and in the way available harvest is being constrained.

Our comments focus on the unnecessarily over restricting of opportunity this year, while also making clear that this cannot become the model going forward.

We will continue pushing on these issues through the April process and are committed working beyond April to avoid repeating these conditions in future seasons.
